Health Benefits of Infrared heating

The human body prefers radiated heat to convection heat.

An experiment at the John B. Pierce Laboratory, USA, clarified the human perception of radiant Vs convected heat:

"Test persons in a room with a temperature of 50°C (122°F) of warm air and cooled walls froze deplorably; when in a room with a temperature of 10°C (50°F) and warm walls, they broke into an unpleasant sweat. (source: Techn. Info “Strahlungsenergie – die Ur-Energie, neu entdeckt, TT Technotherm GmbH, Nürnberg)."

This shows us that humans perceive radiant heat better than convected heat, and require less thermal energy in the form of radiant heat than convected heat to feel warm.

Here is the big difference:

With convection heating, the air in the room is warmed up - causing a multitude of disadvantages.

With an infrared heater, the walls, floor and ceiling, persons, animals and interior objects are radiated with pleasant infrared warmth (the sun’s principle). Because the warmth is all around, there is no heat layering in the room - and thus, there are no more cold feet. Due to the even spread warmth, there is almost no air movement and stirring up dust is kept to a minimum.

A Pleasant and Healthy Climate

Low air temperature, higher wall temperatures, minimal amounts of dust and a pleasant but not too high humidity are the factors which, when combined cause a pleasant room climate. The emphasis here is on cool, dry (not too humid) and dust free air. These are the basic requirements for healthy and easy respiration (comparable to a tropical climate and/or walk on a clear winter day). These substantial advantages are important in each room, regardless of whether in the living room, bedroom, office, etc.

When rooms are properly heated with Infra Red Heating Systems, the development of mould and mildew is virtually impossible because moisture condensation cannot occur (even in the case of rooms which are not aired often). Because of this, moist or wet masonry is eventually dried out. This results in a pleasant and healthy room climate.

Most people are familiar with the strange sense of cold which eminates from large window panes. The same sense, though not quite as strong, is also produced by cold walls in a room. Dry and warm walls are a substantial improvement for persons suffering from gout, sciatiaca, etc.

If Infrared is so good, is convection heating so bad?

Some heating systems have extremely precarious effects on health. All systems which predominantly heat the air (black warmth) work with the principle of air agitation. Air is warmed up, ascends and pulls cold air from the bottom, which is then again heated. This causes a constant air circulation in the room by which the heating of the room through convection first becomes possible. The more the air is heated, the more humidity is drawn from it (the relative humidity is reduced) and the more house dust, pollen, bacteria etc. are whirled through the air. These are swept up, circulated and distributed evenly over the entire room. The consequence: A high air temperature as well as dry and dirty room air. This negatively affects the organism and the feeling of comfort.

Infrared Heating - what humans were designed for

Infrared heating is natural, from a physiological standpoint. The human body absorbs up to 99 % of the radiant heat through the skin. From time immemorial, humans have been exposed to solar radiation - and the body is used to it. In the presence of humid air currents, however, one feels uncomfortable. Who hasn’t heard of “Foehn-Disorders” and the epidemics which threaten the tropics? Exactly these properties have been “proven and tested” in our modern method of heating air - with radiators and convectors in sealed rooms. Meanwhile, over a third of the german population suffers from asthma, with an estimated 8.000 – 10,000 asthma-dead; the Germans are the European champions on the continent, only damp Ireland has more to offer here. Damp insulation systems applied to thick construction shells with mouldy corners and ventilation systems with bacteria rich air hardly promote health and well-being. In museums and churches, the problem of asthmatic personnel and visitors temporarily exposed to high spore levels has become ever more urgent.

Infrared is Wellness Heating

Thanks to evolution, humans are able to absorb infrared heat which has a positive influence on our immune system. Infrared rays warm us from the inside out.
